Established in 1879 (12th year of Meiji), Fukudaya is the location which,
after Japan’s Nobel Prize-winning author Yasunari Kawabata’s initial visit at the age of 19,
became the location for his acclaimed novel “The Dancing Girl of Izu”
Though time flows on, we strive to serve our visitors with the same unchanging dedication. Come immerse yourself in the history,

Wood Bath

​Inside Fukudaya we have the very Kaya Wood Bath used by the Student narrator, as well as our open-air stone bath constantly overflowing with fresh hotspring water. Come immerse yourself in the character of our historic hotspring baths, chosen as one of Japan's Hidden Hotsprings.

Cuisine

​For dinner, the freshest seasonal dishes are available such as rockfish, simmered gold-eye sea bream, sashimi, or wild boar hot-pot. ​Breakfast features traditional Japanese style courses centered on the bounty of the sea and mountains.

To further our customer's distance from the bustle of the everyday, as a "Secluded Hotspring Inn" we have no coin-operated laundry or convenience store on site.

​Fukudaya has been the location for of many well-known film adaptations of "The Dancing Girl of Izu", playing host to stars of the Showa era such as Hibari Misora, Sayuri Yoshinaga, and Momoe Yamaguchi.

For customers arriving by train or bus:
1) Get off the Izu Kyūkō Line at Kawazu Station
2) Board the bus at bus stop #3 next to the station
3) Ride 14 minutes and get off at the Yugano bus stop
4) Walk 3 minutes to Fukudaya
